Freezing/Cryosurgery
These areas will become red and slightly swollen/blistered for the first few days and then followed by a scab. Healing may take 1 to 4 weeks. The lower legs take longer to heal especially in the older age group. Keep treated areas clean with normal washing with soap and water. If a large blister develops, pop with a sterile needle at the base of the blister and cover with a band-aid.
Shave Biopsy Wound Care
- Keep the wound dry on the day of the procedure.
- Clean the area with soap and water, removing scab and crust with a Qtip.
- Keep the wound moist with ointment such as Vaseline or bacitracin and apply a band-aid.
- Repeat this everyday until healed in approximately 2 weeks. (lower legs or a large biopsy may take longer to heal)
- Biopsies on the leg take longer to heal especially in the older population and can take up to 4 or more weeks to heal completely.
Punch Biopsy Wound Care with stitches
- Keep the wound dry for 24 hours after the procedure.
- The next day you may remove the top dressing and gauze, leaving a small tape strip.
- You can bathe normally over top of the tape strip. You can reapply a bandaid over the tape strip if you would like to.
- If the tape falls off, just replace this with a band-aid. The wound should be covered either with the tape strip or Band-Aid or both.
- Sutures will be removed at the office.
- Call the office if pus, swelling or excessive redness or pain occur. A small amount of redness is expected.
Surgery/Excision Wound Care
- Keep the wound dry for 24 hours after the procedure, leaving on the dressing from the office.
- The next day you may remove the top dressing and gauze, leaving a small tape strip.
- You can bathe normally over top of the tape strip. You can reapply a bandage over the strip if you would like to.
- If the tape falls off, just replace this with a bandage. The wound should be covered either with the tape strip or Band-Aid or both.
- Sutures will be removed at the office.
- Call the office if pus, swelling or excessive redness or pain occur. A small amount of redness is expected.
- To minimize swelling keep the areas elevated and use ice for the first few days after the procedure.
- Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity
- DO NOT TAKE ANY ASPIRIN OR IBUPROFEN, OR ANY MEDICATION CONTAINING IBUPROFEN FOR ONE DAY. TYLENOL IS OK.
- If the wound bleeds, apply firm direct pressure for at least 10 minutes. If it continues call the office at 912-354-7124
